After School Care:
We understand that having a safe and friendly place for your child to go after school is very important. According to child experts, the key to overall safety and security is to ensure a quality program with enthusiastic and qualified staff who will keep a child busy and happy. Pioneer offers such a place. We focus on creating a quality program with a safe, trusting and challenging environment where children are encouraged to pursue new and familiar interests, develop friendships, grow in confidence and independence and continue to develop respect for themselves and others. Our program is designed to maximize opportunities for students to build a positive self image not only for social interaction, but for learning, appropriate behavior and good decision making.

A child or teen with high self-esteem is able to:

  • act independently
  • assume responsibility
  • take pride in his accomplishments
  • tolerate frustration
  • attempt new tasks and challenges
  • handle positive and negative emotions
  • offer assistance to others

Social Skills Groups:
Many children have difficulties making and keeping friendships because of inappropriate social skills. Social skills are those communication, problem-solving, decision making, self-management, and peer relations abilities that allow a person to initiate and maintain positive social relationships with others. Our approach to social skills instruction emphasizes teaching in a sensitive and caring manner with lots of patience, fun, and humor. We provide direct instruction to develop social skills that include:
  • Verbal and Non-Verbal Communication
  • Recognizing and Expressing Emotions
  • Self-Monitoring of Stress Levels
  • Stress Prevention and Relaxation Strategies
  • Appropriate Peer and Adult Interactions
  • Citizenship and Character Development
  • Abstract Thinking/ Figurative Speech
  • Self-Advocacy/Conflict Resolution

Direct-Instruction of Social Skills combined with ample opportunities to practice and apply these skills at school and in the community provides each student with the requisite skills to build and sustain life long relationships with others.

It is NOT our goal to "change" who children are or to make them copies of ourselves. Rather it is our goal to help them learn to navigate the "Social World" around them and to identify their own personal strengths as contributing member of our society
