Gardening

In garden class students learn all about taking care of a garden. Students learn the parts, the life cycle, the grow seasons of plants, and so much more. The Community School has a functioning year round garden where the kids get their hands dirty while learning how seeds become delicious fruits and vegetables. From planting to harvesting, the students participate through the entire process. Here are some of the skills and concepts students learn out in the garden.

Snack Shack

The Snack Shack is our student run store. While working in the Snack Shack, students have the opportunity to develop and practice skills that are used in the working world such as: interaction with customers; money transactions (calculating, receiving the amount, returning change to customers and all the little steps in between); taking inventory, shopping for and stocking items; and learning what to do with “down time” while waiting for customers.
